Why we exist
Finding memory care or assisted living for someone you love is one of the hardest searches a family ever does. It usually happens under pressure, often after a fall, a diagnosis, or a hospital stay. And the moment you start looking, you run into an industry built to move quickly: paid referral services, "free" advisors who are paid by the facilities they recommend, and rankings that quietly reflect who pays the most.
We think families deserve better than that. AskSara.care was created to be the resource we wished existed: a place to research and understand care options at your own pace, without anyone selling you anything.
What makes us different
We are a project of the Ask Sara Foundation, a nonprofit. Our structure is not a marketing line. It shapes how we operate.
No placement fees
Most senior-care referral sites are paid a commission, often thousands of dollars, when a family moves into a facility they recommend. That payment shapes what those sites show you. We take no placement fees from anyone, ever. Our directory will not change based on who is willing to pay.
We don't sell your information
When you use a typical "free" senior-living search, your contact details are frequently sold to multiple facilities and call centers. That is why one inquiry can turn into a week of phone calls. A nonprofit, not a broker
We are not in the business of placing people. We are in the business of helping people understand their choices. The difference matters: a broker is paid to close, while we are funded to inform.
How we build the directory
Our directory is being rebuilt carefully and deliberately. Rather than scraping listings and publishing them automatically, we are building a process where each facility's information is reviewed before it goes live, with a clear record of where the information came from and a note on anything we could not confirm.
We would rather publish fewer facilities that we can stand behind than a long list we cannot. As the reviewed directory comes online, you will see it grow region by region.
About Sara
Sara is an optional assistant that can help you think through care questions in plain language. She works for families, not facilities. Sara will never tell you what to choose or push you toward a particular place. She helps you think, not decide, and the directory will work completely without her.
